Interior Stone — Q&A
Finally spilling all the details on our interior stone! Here are the top asked questions I’ve gotten…
Q: is it real stone?
A: yes! This one is a sandstone that comes on a backer sheet
Q: did you install it with the metal backing sheet?
A: I have in past projects, but for our most recent home build, we removed it from the backing to increase space between stones for a more over-grouted style.
Q: what color of grout did you use?
A: white! I like lighter grout/mortar so it blends more with the stone. I wanted a subtle stone texture, tone-on-tone look. Check out Amerimix Trinity White Mortar.
Q: can it be installed on drywall?
A: the only time we’ve ever installed onto drywall was when it was on the backer sheet and the wall had plywood backing across entire wall… the metal backing was then used to screw the panels into the plywood backing for stability. You need to make sure there is enough support for the stone. It’s best to discuss this with your builder and/or stone mason to make the best plan for your home.
Q: how much does the stone cost?
A: $12.99/sq ft (but comes in the sheets like I mentioned)
Q: what colors is the stone?
A: neutral tones— mostly creams and greys, a little tan, it does change a bit based on lighting too.
