#EuropeanOrganicModern: New Home Tour, Boys Bathroom

classic industrial boys bathroom Okay, so one thing I try not to do as a parent is to label my kids or sterotype them, so just between you and me... boys are messy!!! With this house I decided to plan accordingly and I gave my two older boys (7 & 3) their own bathroom just off their bedroom and then my daughter has her own just off her bedroom. It's been working out so well. Today, I'm sharing the boys bathroom and how I was able to design a space that's really functional for them, but still nice to look at.I went with a minimal design with masculine, industrial feel for this space. The floor is a wood look tile in a mid tone that hides dirt. When selecting a floor that may see a lot of wear/dirt, it's ideal to go with a mid range color tone because it's most similar to the color of dirt/dust. Some people think the darker the floor, the better when trying to hide dirt, but if you go too dark, it actually makes the dirt stand out more. If you've ever had black cabinets or dark hardwood floors, you'll know just what I'm talking about! For these awesome cabinets built by the ever-amazing Deco Design, we went for a style that packed in a lot of storage! The X doors add detail & interest, but maintain a sleek appearance. The color is a rich gray (Benjamin Moore-- Kendall Charcoal), that's still a mid range tone to hide all those dirty little fingerprints :) haha. And even these bathroom cabinets have the amazing soft close feature. Deco Design spares not detail. And I love the soft close in kids spaces because 1) the kids don't slam the doors and ruin them and 2) the doors and drawers don't get partially closed, they'll finish closing even if the kids just give a half-hearted push. In case you missed my interview with Deron of Deco Design, be sure to check it out here! He shared all kinds of great info on custom cabinetry and I included my own cabinetry insight as well from a homeowner's and designer's perspective. In order to add some fun to this space, I designed a stripe pattern for the wall tile. To keep things a little more cost effective, I mixed in some simple white subway tile with the green glass tiles. And since we had limited space this trough sink with 2 faucets was a great solution. And let's talk about the faucets, shall we?! Another sleek design from Delta Faucet. These are from the Trinsic line, which is the same collection my Kitchen & Butler's Pantry faucets are from. I love that these bathroom faucets are a single handle style which makes them simple to operate, especially for kids.To amp up the contrast I used this fabulous light fixture from MyLightingSource.com. It's got that sleek European Minimalist vibe and I love it paired with this fabulous hardware from Schaub & Company. These Armadio pulls are simple, yet refined in matte black. Love this bold accent against the rich gray tone.
